Hospice Houses
Hospice of Union County was the first Hospice in the state of North Carolina to provide residential treatment for those patients who decide they can no longer remain at home. Patients and their families may make this decision for a number of reasons - financial, logistical or emotional. When that decision is made, a patient may request a private room in our residential facilities. Our main campus in Monroe has 14 bedrooms available, where patients can bring special items from home to make it "feel" better - a special quilt, small pieces of furniture, artwork and family portraits have all been used to make a patient's room feel like home. The houses are staffed 24-hours a day and all caregiving and medical treatment is done by qualified professional staff in a nurturing environment. Meals are made to suit the individual patient - cooked and served to match their appetite and medical condition. If your loved one has a sweeth tooth or likes toast and tea every morning for breakfast, that's what we want them to have. Grocery shopping is done twice a week by volunteers, who make sure that fresh fruits and vegetables are available, as well as any other food stuff your family member might need. Family and friends are encouraged to visit, including children and pets. All of the bedrooms have space for a cot for a family member to stay, if wanted. Patients are welcome to enjoy the outdoors, whether sitting by the goldfish pond or strolling the grounds. There is also a birdhouse and feeder located outside each window, so that a patient may still enjoy the out of doors, even if their condition doesn't allow them to be outside. Laundry and housekeeping are all taken care of - leaving the patient and their family time to spend together rather than juggling housework, medical care and all of the other tasks that can end up absorbing more time than anyone might imagine. If you are interested in touring the houses, please contact us at 704-292-2100 to arrange a time that is convenient for you and your family. |
